Decomposition of granite and feldspar forms kaolin. Kaolin Rock’s usual impurities are Quartz, Feldspar and Mica which can be removed by washing. It has a layered structure. Each layer is formed by two sheets. Kaolin is white, yellow-white (off white) or brown in appearance. It gives slightly oily feel. It is combination of Aluminum and Silicate and doesn’t mix in water. It is very soft and has low viscosity.Production and Refinement of Kaolin: There are two types of processes which can be used to produce and refine Kaolin Clay. Refinement is basically removing impurities and producing fine kaolin Clay. The first and simplest process is called dry process or air flotation. And the second one and complex process is wet process.
